The
Western Region Puerto Rican Council invites the public to come and
celebrate their 29th Annual Día de San Juan Festival at the
Shoreline Amphitheater, Mountain View, CA on Sunday June 24, 2007,
(subject to change) from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
From Puerto Rican food,
music, cultural activities, dance contest, domino tournament, and
folkloric dances, the Día de San Juan Festival is the largest
authentic Puerto Rican sponsored event in the Bay Area and Northern
California. DSJ celebrates cultural diversity, provides community
information along with a fun-filled family day of traditional food
and first class music and entertainment for all ages-DSJ attracts
a very diverse multicultural group of families including parents,
children/youth, and grandparents coming to enjoy the day together.
"The best thing
about our festival is that with its proceeds we are able to help
Puerto Rican students with scholarships. We just gave out $15,000
on 9/23/06 in scholarships and two thirds of that came from the
profit of Día de San Juan.", Johnny Saldivia, Chairman
of the WRPRC.
The festival will have
a main stage, youth stage, children's Fun Zone (air jumpers, petting
zoo, pony rides, and reptile shows, etc.), authentic food court,
arts and crafts, and much more. The popular dance and domino contests
will also be presented. The first place couple of the dance contest
will receive free tickets for a salsa cruise leaving out of LA.
There will be door prizes and many give-a-ways.
The proceeds from the
Día de San Juan Festival will fund scholarships for Latino
students looking to further their education beyond high school.
